Tips to Stay Healthy after 40

So, you have reached the age of 40? You are not very young and not very old. Many of you have neglected your health until date. But it’s important to start taking care of your health from now on. Growing over-conscious is not necessary but ignoring health will not help either. Here are some important tips to help you stay healthy after 40.

Eat Healthily

You may have been used to spicy and junk food. It’s time to change your food habit. Eat healthy food rich in antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. A balanced diet supplies the necessary elements to your body. It helps you maintain a healthy weight, control blood pressure and prevent multiple health disorders. Put beans, grains, fishes on your daily diet chart. Eat vegetables and fruits regularly. And yes, don’t reach out for tea or coffee in the evening; instead, make it a habit to take green tea.

Cut down Empty Calories

Once you are 40 and above, stay away from pastries, soft drinks, pizzas, donuts and ice cream. These are rich in calories but add no nutritional benefits. Taking these once in a blue moon will cause no harm but regular intake must be avoided.

Go for Regular Screening

Regular health screening is important once you reach 40. Talk to your physician about regular check-up of high blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, urea, creatinine, liver function, and cholesterol. Prevention is always better than cure. For example, if you have high blood pressure, it may enhance the risk of heart attack, stroke and even kidney failure. Also, speak with a dietician to prepare a regular diet chart if all or some medical reports are not within the range.

Take Extra Care of Prostate

Prostate cancer is on rise throughout the globe. Prostate Specific Antigen or PSA test is recognized worldwide as an evaluation of a man’s prostate glands. If diagnosed early, even cancer can be cured. That is why regular PSA test (once in a year) is so much important.

Eliminate Stress

Stress is one of the major causes of heart diseases and depression. Keep stress away from your life; otherwise, it will eat you up. Practice meditations regularly as it will energize your body and refresh your mind. Spending quality time with family, hanging out with good friends and getting busy with your favorite sports and/or hobby in free time are a few ways to eliminate stress from your life system. Staying relaxed and stress-free will help you focus on your work.

Do Regular Exercises

Exercise is good for everyone. Regular exercises improve blood circulation, which is vital to help your heart function properly. Doing exercises regularly will help you control your body weight. Walking half a mile regularly is also good as it helps in maintaining blood sugar and staying fit. Spend at least, half an hour to do pranayama and free-hand exercises to feel energetic and stay healthy.

Sleep Well

Last but not least, switch off the TV and choose the silent mode for your cellphone before going to bed. Make sure to sleep for 8-9 hours to recharge your brain and mind.
