Mosquito Control – What Are the Various Pest Management Methods?

Mosquitoes can be quite the menace as these insects are capable of multiplying at a rapid rate and also cause diseases like malaria and chikungunya. There are several pest management methods that can be taken up for the eradication of these insects in an effective and affordable manner.

Mosquito Control Near East Meadow usually occurs in areas with standing or stagnant water and hence removing all such sources is the best way to stop multiplication of these. Make sure that all drainage areas are closed and sealed and also remove objects like old tires, used cans, buckets and barrels, all of which can collect water and become a breeding ground for these insects. If you have an artificial pond, fountain, bird bath or swimming pool at home, make sure that you clean these regularly so that no larvae is present which can breed into mosquitoes. If you have a natural pond, lake, well or any other water body near your home, then introduce fish species that feed on mosquito larvae and thereby help in preventing the rapid breeding.

Another simple way to stop breeding is to use oils to coat the surface of water which will increase the surface tension and prevent the larvae and pupae from getting air for breathing. If your area is affected by any of the mosquito borne diseases like dengue or malaria, then you must report this to the health authorities. Usually chemical pesticides are sprayed in such areas to kill the existing larvae and pupae which will bring down the menace. This process requires specialized equipment and hence must only be carried out by professional pest management experts. The spraying procedure is usually carried out in the evenings when these insects are most active. Care must also be taken that high concentrations of this chemical spray are not used as it is toxic for human beings and pets.

In areas plagued by mosquitoes, personal protection is also very important to prevent diseases. Make sure that you wear clothes that cover your body completely especially arms and legs. Keep the windows and doors shut from early evening to prevent these insects from entering your home. Fans are quite effective than air conditioners in preventing these insects from biting you as they cannot fly about in moving air. You can also attach insecticides coated mosquito nets to line the windows, air pockets and doors to prevent the entry of these. In some places, such nets are also available for use on beds and cradles which can be used while sleeping.
