Some Technologies Involved in Tyre Production

  1. Tyres with a unidirectional pattern: For several years the traditional cars have used the directional tyres that do not need to be mounted in a particular direction. This has been inconvenient for various reasons. The unidirectional tread patterns are much more accommodating for tyre performances and also it gives less trouble so this is the preferred technology for Firestone tyres. It needs to be mounted in a specified direction only and shall not work otherwise. Resisting hydroplaning is one of its prime benefits.

  2. The zig-zag sipe: one of the most useful and popular tread designs of winter tyres includes this particular sipe. The zig-zag sipes can be noticed, especially the Blizzak model of winter tyres. These sipes are designed to make the tyres better performing on snow-covered roads. The grip is more effective on tyres with zig-zag sipes on icy roads.

  3. The dual-layer treads technology: this is a unique tyre technology and sets apart the Firestone tyres from the rest. This was developed to reduce the risk factor of tyres on the road as their treads wear off. Tyres made with the dual-layer tread technology have two kinds of rubber in their treads. One is the outer layer and another is the inner layer that comes out as it starts to wear off which is capable of grip better. This is why such tyres perform well on wet roads and are easy to handle. Along with this, the control over tyre noise is also achieved since it prevents the noise from increasing as well as the wearing of the tread. These tyres have EPC as a special component in the rubber used for the treads.

  4. Usage of EPC as a tread compound: the innovative EPC tread compound is found to be a good solution for the fast diminishing quality of wet surface performance of tyres. Due to the constant friction faced by the tyres, it starts to harden fast and in the process lose its wet surface handling capacity.   5. Usage of multicell tread: this amazing technology of using multicell tread helps in reducing the chances of slipping and sliding on water. This is so because this tread gets rid of the thin water layer from the tyre surface and makes the drive safe on watery grounds.
